Types of Plywood According to the Number of Compressed layers of raw wood.
The number of sheets stuck together that conclude the thickness of every compressed wood is known as the Plywood grade. Each layer of the pressed wood is called a wood facade, where a facade is a dainty sheet of wood that is stuck together to make the last completed item called Plywood. Remember that facades have an alternate thickness so you should choose them relying on the area where the completed item will be.

Types of Plywood on the basis of Hardwood and Softwood
Plywood is made from different Kinds of wood and therefore comes in different qualities. Every Plywood manufacturer often used different kinds of wood and different techniques for making Plywood.
- Hardwood
Hardwood ply is made from veneers or wood obtained from species like Teakwood, Gurjan or Birchwood. Plywood made from veneers obtained from above mentioned trees are also termed as 100% hardwood plywood. Therefore hardwood plywood are expensive product too.
- Softwood
Softwood ply is made from veneers or wood obtained from species like Spruce-Pine-Fur (SPF) or mango wood. Softwood ply is not as strong as hardwood ply and therefore comes for a cheaper rate than hardwood of the same number of ply.
Usually, hardwood is used to make plywood for its strength and durability. Nevertheless, some manufacturers use softwood to make plywood to sell low cost plywood. There are some who use a combination of both, softwood and hardwood to make plywood.

Most Acceptable Basic types of plywood are -
- Commercial MR Grade for interior use: Commercial plywood generally refers to the grade of plywood, most often referring to MR (Moisture Resistant) Grade plywood (IS 303) which is basically the cheapest grade plywood available in the market. These plywood are generally made from a combination of softwood & hardwood timber or just softwood timber species.
- BWR (water resistance) or BWP (waterproof) grade for exterior use: The BWP (Boiling Waterproof) grade is generally used to indicate grade of External grade block boards (which are different from plywood and consist of blocks of softwood at the core) and BWR (Boiling Water Resistant) grade is used to indicate External grade plywood. They are made using phenolic resins and are adequately waterproof.
- Marine Plywood: Marine Plywood is of superior quality compared to Commercial ply and it also costs a lot more. It is not usually used for indoor applications such as making furniture. It is rather used for applications such as for boat building and other industrial uses where the plywood is bound to get prolonged exposure to water. Commonly used for marine applications such as in the construction of boats and ships. Marine ply Has better resistance to water than any other type of plywood.

Here is your answer of that question you have asked Which is the best plywood in India
Gurjan plywood: The most popular wood used in India for making plywood is Gurjan wood. Gurjan plywood, made from the wood of the Gurjan trees. The medium hardwood obtained from these trees is of good quality and is engineered to produce the Gurjan plywood sheets that we use. Compared to teak wood Gurjan is slightly heavier and stiffer, and has excellent strength, durability, and beautiful reddish-brown color.
